SL2 DJ's Slipmatt and Lime with
MC Jay J
DJ Slipmatt already making a name for himself as a DJ on the rave circuit met up with fellow Essex DJ, DJ Lime in '89 to form SL2.
In 1990 the duo released their first piece of production on 'B-Ware records' titled 'Do that dance'. After the success of 'do that dance they went onto set up their own record label 'Awesome records' releasing 'Bassquake' and 'The noise'
This grew the attention of XL Recordings (home of The Prodigy), which saw the release of 'Dj's take control' and 'Way in my brain', which reached number 11 in the UK Top 40.
April 1992 saw the release of the infamous 'On a ragga tip', which reached a highly respectable number 2 in the UK Top 40! SL2 made appearances on Top of the pops and other media projects as they shot to fame.
With the scene splitting in 93/94 Slipmatt went
onto the happy side of things with the success of the SMD
series and 'Universal records'. Lime continued with 'Awesome records' taking the jungle/ drum and bass route. In
late '99 the duo paired up giving us the SL2 experience in full effect with the
vocal talents of Jay J. As they can be found playing oldskool retro set, home and abroad. |
