After last Septembers awesome party back by popular demand, Legends of Leisurebowl returned back to Keele as they present Club Kinetic – The Final Frontier, tonight would see Alex and Stacie taking a break from hosting parties.

Headed up the M6 and got to Keele just before 5pm, arrived at the Uni where there was plenty of free on-site parking. Walked up the Student union and after a quick search from security headed straight upstairs to the Ballroom.

With an expected attendance lower than usual the main arena capacity was slightly reduced, as around the sides and along the back of the arena there were tables for people to chill and rest on. No expenses where spared on the level of production, as this was top tier with the student union ballroom fully kitted out. There was plenty of multi coloured drapes hanging from the celling, whilst on stage just like before a massive LED wall behind the DJ stand with a tower of LED lights on either side and lasers that would illuminate the ballrooom.

Scotland’s DJ FX had the party in full swing with the ravers bouncing as he littered his set with plenty of Scott Brown’s productions including ‘Elysium (I go crazy)’, ‘Neckbreaker’, ‘Now is the time’, ‘Technophobia’, ‘E-Creation’ and ‘Hardcore Disco’ before closing his set with the Force and Styles sing along classic ‘Simply Electric’.

DJ Kurt was up next alongside MC Livelee, I was rather interested to what Kurt was going to play and really enjoyed his selection, I was not disappointed. Kurt did his homework and played a traditional Kinetic set with plenty of hard and bouncy classics.

Kurt opened up with the Technohead classic ‘I wanna be a hippy’ and moved onto ‘Can’t stop raving’, ‘Hold me now’, ‘Wonderful Days’. MC Livelee accompanied Kurt and rocked the crowd with his classic lyrics which had the crowd reciting to him, plenty of energy left in Livelee. Kurt continued to play happy hardcore anthems ‘Shining Down’, ‘Keep on trying’ and ‘Heart of Gold’

Taking over the decks was was the Happy Hardcore legend Mr Bonkers - DJ Sharkey all I have to say is wow, what an amazing set this was. Sharkey showcased plenty of classics from Bonkers 1 & 2, rolled out with ‘E-Nuff’, ‘Body Slam’ and ‘Rainbow Islands’. Of course he dropped the bonkers and happy hardcore anthem ‘Toytown’ which had the crowd blowing their whistles and horns in unison. MC Shocker hosted the set and complimented the music, Sharkey continued to play ‘Airhead’, ‘Now is the time’ and ‘Pilgrim’.

Headlining the night was the Hardcore Project featuring hardcore legends DJ SY, Vinlygroover, Freestyle and MC Energy, an exclusive set this was the first time that all four had joined each other on stage. A journey of hardcore with plenty of crowd favourites including ‘Time’, ‘Steamtrain’, ‘Jumpin Pumpin’, ‘Need your lovin’ ‘Virtual Dreams’, and ‘Like a Prayer’.

MC Freestyle and Energy were rocking the stage, it was like a body builders convention with these two flexing their muscles whilst giving the crowd a workout! Sy living up to his name the ‘Scratchmaster’ was busy working up the cross-fader as he tore up the set with a number of scratch patterns.

Sy and Vinlygroover upped the years switching from the mid 90’s and into the late 90’s as they dropped ‘Space invader’, ‘Kick it’,‘Every time I close my eyes’, ‘Pretty Green eyes’ before finishing off with the timeless rave classic from ‘SL2 – On a ragga tip’

Up next was Illusion resident and Stokes very own Andy Tekno who had ditched the USB’s and played a pure vinyl set for the next 90 minutes. Andy got things going with ‘DJ Tap-It + B&H - Never let you go’, a very bouncy techno set with plenty of dutch classics thrown in ‘Take it from the groove’, ‘Love Is You’,‘Take me to wonderland’ and ‘Intergalactic Ride (Spaceman)’.

The voice of Club Kinetic MC Connie was on mic duties and controlled the crowd throughout. Andy upped the tempo and had the crowd stomping with ‘Technophobia’, ‘Ravers Groove’, ‘This Is The Ultimate’ and the gabba classic from The Prophet ‘Allright now here we go!!!’

Final set of the night came from the South Coast legends, Ramos and Supreme it looked like that MC Marley was unable to attend so Connie continued with the proceedings. The RSR duo opened up with the an updated mix of ‘Forever Autumn’ and carried on with a number of classics including ‘Ravestation’, ‘Body Slam’ and ‘Broken Wings’, which had the Stoke crowd to have a karaoke moment.

The dance floor erupted when they unleashed the hardcore anthem from Lou Lou ‘Makin me wanna dance’ as they dipped into the UK hardcore era playing tracks such as, ‘Forever Young’ remix ‘Can’t Stop’ and ‘Silver Water’ before closing the night with the timeless Hectic Records classic ‘Gotta Believe’ was nice to see Ramos get on stage and have dad dance at the end of the night considering his health scare a few years back.

Such a shame that leading up to the event the pre sale tickets weren’t great especially with a solid traditional Kinetic lineup, when the set times were announced a number artists had been cancelled. This made sure that there were no unexpected surprises and avoided disappointment, very open and honest – wish we had more promoters who were like this!

Under these circumstances and cancellations it did not dampen the party, the atmosphere was second to none a proper up for it vibe, plenty of old kinetic ravers were out in force and had everyone stomping.

Really enjoyed Sharkey’s set as he played plenty of gems from the first two bonkers albums, another standout set for me was Andy Tekno who dug deep with plenty of Kinetic classics it really reminded me of a classic Brisk set from the mid 90’s.
