Legends of the
Leisure Bowl Presents
Club Kinetic Reunion
Saturday 13th
September 2025
Keele University
Stoke on Trent
For those who
don't know, Club Kinetic one of the legendary promotions from
the Midlands during the 90's. Kinetic would attract ravers from
all over the country to the Leisurebowl in Stoke on a weekly
basis a plethora of rave royalty have graced the doors at
Kinetic. Notorious for that harder faster sound of hardcore
especially in the mid 90's.
The concept of the
event was the brain child of Alex Energy and Stacie having an
annual get together with no date (only month) or venue announced
the momentum grew and tickets were selling, it was fair to say
the beast was unleashed.
I expected another
intimate Legends of the Leisure Bowl party at Jollees but in
true Alex and Stacie fashion they took it to another level and
announced that they will be returning back to Keele University
home to Illusion, a colossal line-up was booked featuring many
of the favourites from years gone by.
Saturday finally
came and I zipped up the M6 and got to Keele for around 5.30pm,
plenty of free parking at the student union car park just as I
arrived my old friends Vibes and Livelee had just arrived as
they searched for a parking spot I headed off to the venue.
There was no queue as the party was in full flow you could hear
the music pumping out into the balcony, was greeted on the door
by Alex and Stacie, after a brief search from the friendly
security I was straight in.
Headed up the
stairs and into the main arena Stokes very own Andy Tekno was
on, production in here was pretty impressive. Stage set up had
massive LED screen complimented with numerous led lights on
either side of the dj stand with a thundering sound system.
Andy and MC Lox
were warming up the crowd keeping it oldskool with a strictly
vinyl set playing a more Kinetic Digital set it was hard but not
too furious during the early hours of the party. I was hoping
for a little dutch bouncy techno from Andy, though he pointed
out to me he'd be playing those Pengo classics later on in arena
2.
Up next was the
Essex boys as Stoke was about to be entertained by the infamous
Vibes and Livelee show, soon as Livelee said his infamous 'oi
oi' the main arena filled up instantly. Vibes opened up the set
with 'Techno wonderland' and moved onto 'Toytown'.
Livelee had the
crowd reciting and singing his lyrics throughout the set
including 'My name is....', 'Pills in your pocket' and '20 years
ago ( think this classic needs a little update ). Vibes carried
onto to play 'All I need', 'Rave Theme', 'Love of my life',
before finishing of with 'Nakatomi – Free'.
Following on from
Vibes and Livelee was Seduction and Mad P, it's been an absolute
age since I last heard Seduction play a 94-96. It's kinda rare
seeing him on a line-up these days with him now living abroad
and he did not disappoint. Seduction opened up with 'No more
tears' which I was not expecting !!!
Was an interesting
combination having Mad P as he reeled off his infamous lyrics
throughout the set, Seduction upped the tempo with classics
including 'Bust a new jam', ' Tasty Tunes Vol. 1' of course its
not a Seduction set without an appearance of 'Hardcore heaven'.
Seduction dropped the timeless Scott brown classic 'Now is the
time' which saw the dance floor explode.
Seduction and Mad
P had to dash off to Sheffield after their set and Scorpio took
control of the decks, this set was strictly for the head strong.
Perfect time for a breather and headed off to the 2nd
room in the student union bar for a cold drink and a catch up
with some of my old raving pals. After cooling down and
re-energised we headed back to the madness of the main arena to
catch the tail end of Scorpio who ensured the beats were hard
and fast.
Next up was the
return of the Scratchmaster and hardcore legend that is DJ Sy,
alongside MC Energy. Sy opened up with 'Midas - Groove Control',
MC Energy was controlling the crowd throughout was like a PT
instructor mid work out ! Well it's not a Sy set without his
trademark scratch patterns and signature selection that kept the
crowd bouncing playing party favourites such as 'Kick it', 'Like
prayer', 'Cloudy Daze', 'Q-Tex - Equazion Part 9' before
dropping my all time favourite from Sy & Demo 'Stay with me'
instantly took me straight back in time to 25 years ago being a
teenager at the legendary Sanctuary Milton Keynes - Millennium
Jam.
It was time to
clear my throat and get those vocal chords ready for some
hardcore karaoke as we had the Force & Styles Experience
featuring DJ Force, Jenna and MC Charlie B. Jenna was lively on
the stage as she got everyone singing whilsts reaching for the
lasers to the all mighty 'Field of dreams'.
The set was
littered with plenty of Force and Styles classics including
'Follow me', 'Heart of Gold', 'Pacific Sun' and 'Pretty green
eyes' (RIP Junior). With the crowd singing Charlie B
complemented the music whilst DJ Force continued with
'Braveheart' along with a few bits featured on their recent
Remember the vibe boxset including 'If not Today', 'On a ragga
tip', 'All systems go' and 'Simply electric'.
Final set of the
night came from the original Club Kinetic residents DJ Demand
and MC Connie. This was the power hour as Demand kept it hard
and bouncy throughout including his own signature track 'Jumpin
Pumpin'. The voice of Kinetic MC Connie ensured the crowd
maintained their energy levels for the final 60 minutes
especially when Demand switched to the bouncy Dutch classics
including 'Burnin love', 'Don't leave me alone' and 'Wonderful
days' of course Demand did not let the Kinetic faithful down as
he dropped the Leisurebowl monster anthem 'Diss Reaction –
Jiiieehaaaa'.
What a fantastic
night from Alex and Stacie really had a great night the music
policy was perfect hearing happy hardcore from 94 onwards. Sets
in the main arena were spot on a few anthems thrown in for good
measure everyone pretty much stuck to script. We all know that
Kinetic's Brisk has moved away to Australia and having him to
play tonight would have been the icing on the cake. Demand
ensured we got those Dutch classics thrown in and kept it bouncy
and hard in true Kinetic style.
I was glad the
rave was at Keele as much as I do love an intimate party it
would have been a sweat box with tonight attendance crammed into
smaller capacity venue with everyone bouncing around to those
hard beats.
Once again thanks
to Alex and Stacie for putting a great party you guys will never
retire and seeing everyone in the crowd behaving like teenagers
again is absolutely priceless and this is why you guys put on
memorable nights like tonight..
Massive shouts to
